read PPE at St John’s College Oxford. He has worked at Political and Economic Planning (PEP), where he was co-author of the study on British industry, and at the NIESR on a study with particular reference to demographics and inter-regional migration. He became Head of Research at the Location of Offices Bureau and subsequently Head of Research at the Advertising Association, where he established and carried out the Advertising Forecast. Later he was a director of a leading market research company, and then became a media consultant, working in areas of economics, market research and forecasting. One of his key functions has generally been to ensure that any practical conclusions alleged to arise from data are logically coherent.
