Brian Snowdon is currently a Senior Teaching Fellow (Part-Time) in Economics at the University of Durham Business School, UK. Before retiring, he was previously Professor of Economics and Head of the Division of Economics at the University of Northumbria, Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK, Visiting Professor of Economics at Old Dominion University, Virginia, USA, and a Consultant and Tutor in Economics at the Open University. He has given invited lectures and conference papers at numerous universities in the UK, USA, Canada, China, Malaysia, Japan, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic. His main research interests and publications are in the areas of development economics, economic growth, economic history, international economics, and macroeconomics. As well as numerous articles in academic journals, he is the author/co-author/editor of eleven books including: Markets Intervention and Planning (with B. Roper, Longman, 1987), Reflections on the Development of Modern Macroeconomics (with H.R. Vane, Edward Elgar, 1997); A Macroeconomics Reader (with H.R. Vane, Routledge), Conversations With Leading Economists: Interpreting Modern Macroeconomics (with H. R. Vane, Edward Elgar, 1999), Conversations on Growth Stability and Trade (Edward Elgar, 2002), An Encyclopaedia of Macroeconomics (with H. R. Vane, Edward Elgar, 2002), A Modern Guide to Macroeconomics: Its Origins, Development and Current State (with H. R. Vane, Edward Elgar, 2005), and Globalisation, Development, and Transition: Conversations with Eminent Economists (Edward Elgar, 2007). His books have been translated into several languages, including French, Italian, Polish, Bulgarian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Mongolian. He has also been a regular reviewer of books for the Times Higher Education Supplement and several scholarly journals including The Economic Journal. Most recently, his publications include contributions to several edited volumes including: Robert Solow and the Development of Growth Economics (Duke University Press, 2009), Twenty-First Century Economics: A Reference Handbook (Sage, 2010) Competition, Competitive Advantage and Clusters: The Ideas of Michael Porter (Oxford University Press, 2011), and Handbook of International Development and Education (Edward Elgar, 2015).
